Geoff is a highly experienced exercise specialist with over 30 years in the health and fitness industry, combining a strong academic background with extensive frontline experience in exercise rehabilitation and long-term condition management.
After graduating with a degree in Sports Science in 1994, Geoff began his career as a personal trainer in New York City, where he developed a strong interest in the role of exercise in the prevention and management of chronic illness. Working alongside a colleague training as a medical doctor — who specialised in supporting clients with long-term conditions — helped shape Geoff’s early understanding of exercise as a therapeutic intervention, rather than simply a fitness tool.
On returning to the UK, Geoff transitioned into education, spending 22 years teaching sport and exercise science across vocational, further, and higher education. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and, during this period, completed a Master’s degree in Physical Activity and Public Health, further strengthening his evidence-based approach to practice.
After more than two decades in academia, Geoff felt drawn back to direct clinical delivery and now works within a local authority setting, delivering exercise rehabilitation services for individuals living with a wide range of conditions. These include cardiac, pulmonary, metabolic, musculoskeletal, cancer, and neurological conditions. He also works with The Brain Charity as an exercise specialist, supporting people with complex and varied neurological needs.
A key area of Geoff’s current practice is falls prevention, working with both older adults and individuals with neurological conditions that impact balance and mobility. He is a qualified Postural Stability Instructor through Later Life Training and holds advanced exercise specialist qualifications in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, obesity and diabetes, and low back pain. He is also qualified in cancer exercise rehabilitation through the American College of Sports Medicine, with conversion to the UK equivalent currently in progress.
While Geoff’s practice is grounded in extensive education and professional expertise, his approach is firmly person-centred and collaborative. He believes that the client is the expert on their own lived experience, and that effective exercise programmes are built through partnership, trust, and shared decision-making.
Geoff views exercise as a form of lifelong medicine — one that must be realistic, meaningful, and sustainable to truly support long-term health, independence, and quality of life.
